Lufthansa Cargo expands its network in Latin America with a new service from Frankfurt with stops in Mexico City/Santa Lucia and Monterrey, boosting Nuevo Leon as a logistics hub in a key region. The announcement of this service was made at an event held by OMA Aeropuertos in the presence of CEO Ricardo Dueñas and Frank Nozinsky, General Manager of Lufthansa Cargo Logistics Services in Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Central America and the Caribbean.

With an initial frequency of one weekly flight operated in a Boeing 777F aircraft with a capacity of 85 tons, Lufthansa Cargo will be able to strengthen the air export and import business in the northern region of Mexico, as well as bring logistics solutions to and from Central Europe and different countries in Asia and the Middle East,

“As we celebrate two decades of operating our cargo unit this year, we reaffirm OMA Carga’s objective to promote foreign trade by offering logistics solutions,” said Ricardo Dueñas, CEO of OMA.

Key investments are currently underway at OMA Carga with the goal of expanding warehouse capacity by 50%, as well as digitalization of cargo handling systems, and an investment in electric forklifts to reduce fuel usage by 79%.

“After years of planning and challenges overcome, we are pleased to announce the start of our airfreight operations to Monterrey. Despite the obstacles, including the pandemic, this is just the beginning of a strong relationship with our customers in a market we perceive has immense potential. We look forward to expanding our offering soon and further strengthening our presence in the region,” said Frank Nozinsky, Managing Director of Lufthansa Cargo Logistics Services in Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Central America and the Caribbean.

The business unit will oversee cargo handling, represent the airline and be the point of contact for customers in Monterrey. The service will be available from the end of May.
