Severe Turbulence on a Singapore Airlines Boeing 777 Causes over 30 Injuries and One Fatality: What we know

At 15:55 (local time) this Tuesday, flight SQ 321 of Singapore Airlines, connecting London/Heathrow with Singapore, declared an emergency over the airspace of Myanmar and made an immediate landing at Suvarnabhumi International Airport (BKK) in Bangkok, Thailand.

The aircraft in question is a Boeing 777-300 (ER), with registration 9W-SVM, was carrying 211 passengers and 18 cabin crew and pilots. Minutes later, the airline communicated that due to the inclement weather over the Bay of Bengal, it encountered severe clear air turbulence at 15:45.

This event resulted in 30 injuries of varying severity and, unfortunately, the death of one of them.

“Singapore Airlines offers its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased. Our priority is to provide all possible assistance to all passengers and crew on board the aircraft. We are working with local Thai authorities to provide the necessary medical assistance and sending a team to Bangkok to provide any additional assistance needed,” the airline stated on its official social media accounts.
