Trujillo International Airport to Begin Modernization and Expansion Works in 2026 to meet the growing demand in the northern region of Peru. The project includes the construction of a new terminal and complete runway renovation.
With a total investment of $701.5 million, Capitan FAP Carlos Martínez de Pinillos International Airport (TRU) will have the capacity to handle 8 million passengers and 100,000 tons of cargo annually.
The expansion and modernization of Trujillo airport will involve various works, the most significant being the construction of a new passenger terminal and a cargo terminal. The budget allocated for these works is $382 million and $276 million respectively.

Included in the budget for the new terminal is the reconstruction and modernization of the runway lighting system. Additionally, the terminal equipment will be upgraded, and a new perimeter fence will be constructed.
Simultaneously with the airport expansion works, $43.5 million will be invested to optimize passenger boarding and disembarking processes.
The works will begin in the second half of 2026 and are expected to be completed in 2028. The construction phase will create 5,000 new direct jobs and 2,000 permanent jobs once the works are completed.
Moreover, the expansion and modernization of Trujillo airport will have a direct impact on the region’s economy and tourism. The new airport is expected to transform Trujillo into a major hub for national and international air connectivity, attracting investments and promoting tourism.
Currently, Trujillo airport connects with two destinations: Lima (LIM) and Santiago de Chile (SCL). Flights to Lima are operated by LATAM Perú, Sky Airlines Perú, and JetSMART Perú, while the connection to Santiago de Chile is offered by JetSMART.
