On the evening of 15 July, for reasons under investigation, an A-4AR Fightinghawk fighter crashed during a night flight training exercise at Villa Reynolds, San Luis, headquarters of the IV Air Brigade. According to preliminary reports, the pilot in command managed to eject but suffered injuries that resulted in his death.

The Argentine Air Force confirmed the accident and the pilot’s death in a statement released on its social networks.

The aged A-4AR fleet is set to be replaced by the recently acquired Danish SABCA F-16 A/Bs, and some pilots currently commissioned to the IV Air Brigade will transition to the multirole fighters. Sources indicate that the aircraft involved in the accident is a single-seater A-4R (twin-seaters are named OA-4AR), with registration C-926.

This is a developing story.
