Embraer Introduces World’s First Automatic Takeoff System for E2 Jets

Embraer E195-E2

Embraer has just announced that the E2 jets will be the world’s first commercial airplanes to feature an automatic takeoff system. This innovative technology allows for an increased range of up to 350 nautical miles at restricted airports like London City.

The so-called Embraer Enhanced Take-off System, or E2TS, will automatically perform the aircraft’s takeoff at the most optimized rotation point, reducing the total required takeoff distance and achieving an optimized climb, reports our affiliated media in Brazil, Aeroin.

As the maximum takeoff weight of aircraft is often limited by runway length, by reducing the necessary distance compared to current takeoffs, the E190-E2 and E195-E2 jets will be able to take off with more weight over the current distance since the E2TS will operate under any weight condition.

Available from the last quarter of 2025 for E2 aircraft in operation or new from the factory, the E2TS will allow nonstop flights from London City to Istanbul, the Canary Islands, Madeira Island, and Greece, for example.

“Just like the automatic landing system (Autoland), if the system fails, the pilot will perform the landing manually. There will be a differences course for pilots, but probably no need for simulator use,” said Luís Carlos Affonso, Vice President of Technology Development and Engineering at Embraer, in an interview with AEROIN during the Farnborough International Airshow 2024.
