WestJet and Air North (the Yukon carrier) have announced an interline agreement that combines the networks of both air carriers. Beginning July 31, customers can purchase a single ticket with a connected itinerary with WestJet’s global network, Yukon, and the Northeast Territories, with single baggage check-in for connecting itineraries.
“Understanding the importance of air access for remote communities, and through our shared passion for affordable and accessible air transportation, WestJet and Air North are joining forces to offer the only comprehensive interline agreement from a major airline to northern Canada. This interline agreement will redefine air travel to the Yukon and Northwest Territories from WestJet’s extensive network, opening up significant new opportunities for tourism and business travel. It will also enable more seamless access to educational, medical, and cargo services to reach remote communities,” said Jared Mikoch-Gerke, WestJet’s Director of Alliances and Airport Affairs.
“Safe, affordable, and seamless air transportation is a necessity rather than a luxury for Northerners. This interline agreement will provide better access to and from the rest of the world for Yukoners and visitors to the Yukon. We are confident that, in doing so, it will provide significant benefits for Yukoners, for visitors to the Yukon, and Air North and WestJet,” said Joe Sparling, CEO of Air North.
Air North operates 12 Canadian destinations, including four northern Yukon cities and Inuvik in the Northeast Territories. With the implementation of the interline agreement, customers can make a single ticket purchase to connect between more than 100 destinations in WestJet’s growing network, including popular destinations in Asia, Europe and the United States, via Calgary, Vancouver, Toronto, or Edmonton to or from Whitehorse or Yellowknife, Yukon.
It will also allow WestJet customers to book a single ticket to some of Canada’s most remote northern communities, increasing economic and tourism activity in the northern regions.
Bookings are now available through travel agents or websites. WestJet and Air North will continue to work together to incorporate enhancements in the future, such as the ability to check in at all times.
