After the accident involving its ATR 72-500 aircraft (operating flight 2283) on August 9, Voepass temporarily suspended ticket sales on several routes until August 31. The affected routes include flights to and from Fortaleza, Natal, Fernando de Noronha, and Juazeiro do Norte.
The airline’s decision is part of a reorganization of its flight network due to «contingency measures» that have led to delays and cancellations. According to Voepass, flights between Fernando de Noronha and Juazeiro do Norte will not resume until at least September 1.
As reported by our partner Aeroin, Voepass halted operations connecting Fernando de Noronha with Fortaleza and Natal as of August 12. Currently, only two daily flights between Recife and Fernando de Noronha remain operational, with priority given to LATAM customers, with whom Voepass has a commercial partnership.
Complaints from Voepass Customers and ANAC Intervention
Many passengers affected by these cancellations reported difficulties obtaining refunds or re-booking on alternative flights, leading to a surge in complaints on consumer rights platforms like Reclame Aqui. The company apologized for the «inconveniences caused by the contingency measures» and stated that it is working to minimize disruptions by reassigning passengers to alternative flights whenever possible.
The National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC), responsible for regulating and overseeing commercial aviation activities in Brazil, is actively monitoring the situation. After providing initial support to the victims’ families, ANAC launched an «assisted operation» to ensure Voepass maintains adequate service standards.
ANAC also emphasized the importance of intensifying the monitoring of Voepass operations following the accident, setting guidelines to prevent further disruptions. Passengers are advised to contact the airline directly in case of delays or cancellations, according to Resolution No. 400, which outlines the general conditions for air transport in Brazil.
