All Nippon Airways returned to Vienna

After four years, All Nippon Airways is returning to Austria with non-stop service between Tokyo Haneda and Vienna. The last operation of this route was on March 28, 2020, and it was suspended as a result of the COVID-19 crisis. Its Star Alliance partner Austrian Airlines provides seasonal service between the Austrian capital and Tokyo Narita.

Flight NH 205 was operated by a Boeing 787-9 registered as JA873A, which took off from Haneda International Airport at 23:14 local time on August 1 and landed at Vienna International Airport at 06:05 the following day, after thirteen hours and 51 minutes.

The inaugural flight was attended by Katsuhiro Suzuki, CEO of ANA in Austria, Maria Petalidou, Head of Joint Venture EMEA and Area Director of ANA in Germany, Austria, Italy and Poland, and Belina Neumann, Head of Aviation Development at Flughafen Wien AG.

“The Vienna-Tokyo Haneda route opened on February 17, 2019 and has enjoyed great popularity from the outset. This applies particularly to visitors from Japan who show a keen interest in culture. Vienna also plays a significant role as a gateway to Eastern Europe and is, not least, an important destination for business travelers. The suspension of flight service in response to the coronavirus pandemic pained us greatly. That is why we are even more pleased that this important and popular route will once again be part of our global network. We are convinced that this air connection between our airline and Vienna Airport has a promising future,” said Katsuhiro Suzuki, ANA’s General Manager Vienna.
