Azul equips its fleet of seven Airbus A330neo with Viasat’s Ka-band flight connectivity and the first aircraft is expected to enter with Wi-Fi service by 2025.
The Brazilian airline already offers Viasat-equipped Wi-Fi service on its Airbus A320neo and Embraer E195-E2 fleets, and soon Azul passengers flying on Airbus A330neo aircraft will also enjoy this service.
Customers will be able to purchase plans for audio and video streaming, web browsing, and messaging. Azul’s A330-900 aircraft fleet operates all services to Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, Paris-Orly, and Lisbon from Campinas, Belo Horizonte, and Recife.
“Part of what differentiates Azul in the Brazilian market is our first-class connectivity experience on select aircraft. From Brazilians’ thirst for real-time sports scores to their desire to stay connected to loved ones on the ground while flying, our hypothesis that this functionality would be key to customer satisfaction is being borne out in the market. We look forward to continuing to work closely with Viasat as we continue to enhance our existing onboard Wi-Fi experience in the future,” said Jason Ward, Chief People and Customer Officer for Azul.
In addition to expanding its Wi-Fi-enabled fleet, Azul is collaborating with Viasat to optimize the Wi-Fi experience for passengers by adding ad-supported streaming sessions using Viasat’s advertising platform. The Brazilian operator is the first carrier to adopt the advertising platform.
Azul and Viasat are expanding a partnership that began providing Wi-Fi connectivity in Brazil in 2021. The Brazilian airline was the first in South America to select Viasat’s service and the first airline providing free in-flight Wi-Fi service to passengers in South America.
