Norse Atlantic Airways, a low-cost airline focused on the transatlantic market, completed a flight between Oslo and Darwin, which earned its place in history as the first non-stop flight connecting Norway and Australia.
The aircraft, a Boeing 787-9 registered LN-FNB, took off on Saturday, August 3 at 6:00 AM (local time) from Oslo’s Gardermoen Airport and landed at Darwin Airport at 6:00 AM on Sunday, August 4 (local time), covering approximately 14,730 kilometers in 16 and a half hours.
The flight was a charter operation contracted by Albastar S. A. through Scandinavia’s largest air broker, Aircontact.
«The completion of this charter flight between Norway and Darwin, a first in aviation, is a testament to our commitment to consistently offer excellent service to our charter flight customers. The Boeing 787-900 Dreamliner is the perfect aircraft for ultra-long-haul flights, and we are proud to demonstrate its capabilities on this historic route,» said Mette Birkedahl, Charter and ACMI Director at Norse Atlantic Airways.
On its return, the LN-FNB took off from Darwin at 2:35 PM on Monday, August 5 (local time) headed to Rome with a stopover in Bangkok.
