The U.S. State Department gave the green light to a potential foreign military sale (FMS) to the Republic of Korea for AH-64E Apache helicopters and related logistics and program support elements at an estimated cost of $3.5 billion.
As reported by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) press release, the package requested by South Korea includes:
- 36 AH-64E Apache helicopters;
- 76 T700-GE-701D engines (4 spares);
- 36 AN/ASQ-170 Modernized Target Acquisition and Designation Sight/AN/AAR-11 Modernized Pilot Night Vision Sensors
(M-TADS/PNVS); - 14 AN/APG-78 mast-mounted fire control radars;
- 456 AGM-114R2 (N) Hellfire missiles;
- 6 M36E8 captive airborne training missiles (CATM);
- 152 AGM-179A Joint Air-to-Ground Missiles (JAGM);
- M230E-1 30mm and M139 AWS 20mm cannons and ammunition.
- 2.75-inch rockets
It also contemplates the supply of support equipment, spare parts, communications systems, training, self-defense systems, and technical personnel for its implementation, among other things.
