The Brazilian National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) has authorized the foreign airline DHL Aero Expreso to commence regular operations in Brazil. Based in Panama, the company aims to facilitate cargo transport, focusing on high-value products such as pharmaceuticals and electronics.

DHL Aero Expreso, a subsidiary of DHL in Panama, is expanding its presence in the Latin American cargo market. The airline operates a fleet of cargo aircraft, including Boeing 757-200F and 767-300F models, serving various international routes. With this authorization, the company will soon be able to register flights in ANAC’s Air Services Registration System (Siros).

DHL mulls operations at Viracopos International Airport

According to unofficial sources cited by our media partner Aeroin, operations are expected to take place at Viracopos International Airport in Campinas, São Paulo, replacing flights currently operated in partnership with Canada’s CargoJet using the Boeing 767-300F.

In 2022, CargoJet announced a long-term strategic agreement with DHL for five years, with an option to renew for an additional two years, to provide air transportation services for DHL‘s global network.

This authorization for DHL Aero Expreso is another step in strengthening air cargo liberalization in Latin America. Brazil and Panama are signatories of the Memorandum of Understanding on Cargo Services Liberalization of the Latin American Civil Aviation Commission (CLAC), established in December 2023. This memorandum allows member countries to grant each other Seventh Freedom traffic rights for cargo-only services, enabling an airline from one signatory country to transport goods between another signatory country and a third country without starting or ending the journey in the airline’s home country.
