Avianca has confirmed it will begin service at Aeroparque Jorge Newbery in Buenos Aires with flights from Bogotá starting December 9.
This airport is more convenient for certain passenger segments due to its location near downtown Buenos Aires, compared to Ezeiza, which is 30 kilometers away.
“We are very proud to announce our new Bogotá-Aeroparque operation, which adds to the four routes we currently operate, connecting Colombia, Ecuador, and Costa Rica with Argentina. In 2023, we transported around 400,000 passengers on routes to and from Argentina, and without a doubt, this new operation, our 20th launched in 2024, represents an excellent opportunity to offer our customers a new option for flying to and from Argentina and to further connect the southern part of the continent with over 75 destinations worldwide,” commented Gabriel Oliva, Chief Operating Officer of Avianca.
Avianca will operate three weekly flights between El Dorado Airport in Bogotá and Aeroparque Jorge Newbery in Buenos Aires, complementing this with 15 weekly flights to Ezeiza (one daily flight using Boeing 787-8 aircraft).
Flights to Aeroparque Jorge Newbery will depart from Bogotá on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays at 21:10, arriving in the Argentine capital at 5:40 the following day. In the opposite direction, flights will depart from Aeroparque on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays at 7:00, arriving in Bogotá at 11:35. These flights will be operated with Airbus A320 aircraft.
At Aeroparque, Avianca will face competition from Aerolíneas Argentinas, which operates a daily flight to Bogotá using Boeing 737-700 aircraft, offering 896 seats per week in each direction.
While this will be the first time the Colombian parent company of Avianca will operate at Aeroparque, the brand was previously present there between 2017 and 2019, operating with ATR aircraft from Avian Líneas Aéreas (yes, Avian, but branded as Avianca Argentina), when both companies shared Germán Efromovich as a shareholder.
Additionally, Avianca offers seven weekly flights to Buenos Aires/Ezeiza from Medellín, seven on the San José – Quito – Ezeiza route, and, starting October 27, four more weekly flights on the San José – Guayaquil – Ezeiza route.
The Bogotá-Buenos Aires route also sees competition from GOL, which operates a daily flight that continues to São Paulo/Guarulhos.
Aeroparque is getting more crowded
With the arrival of Avianca, almost all South American airlines operating regular flights in Argentina have now landed at Aeroparque.
GOL offers seven weekly flights from Florianópolis, 21 weekly flights from São Paulo/Guarulhos, one weekly flight from Salvador, and one weekly flight from Recife.
From Santiago de Chile, SKY operates eight weekly flights; JetSMART operates 17 weekly flights (ranging between 12 and 14 with the Chilean parent company, and the rest with the Argentine subsidiary); and LATAM operates 20 weekly flights.
LATAM Airlines also operates 23 weekly flights from São Paulo/Guarulhos and 9 from Lima.
Finally, Paranair offers 13 weekly flights from Asunción, Paraguay.
The only one yet to arrive at Aeroparque Jorge Newbery is Boliviana de Aviación (BoA), which currently focuses its operations at Ezeiza with 12 weekly flights from Santa Cruz de la Sierra and one weekly flight from Cochabamba.
