Elbe Flugzeugwerke GmbH (EFW) has announced that it is re-entering the Airbus A380 maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) market. EFW will perform A380 maintenance for Global Airlines, a new EFW customer, at its facility in Dresden, Germany, in the fourth quarter of 2024.
Under the contract signed with Global Airlines, EFW will provide heavy airframe maintenance services for the early entry into commercial service of the airline’s first A380. EFW will take care of scheduled maintenance, including mandatory inspections and component replacements. In addition to Global Airlines, EFW has secured A380 MRO from other customers and will expand its maintenance services for the superjumbo from 2025.
“Given our years of experience in A380 maintenance, we are excited to re-establish our MRO activities for this unique aircraft. We look forward to supporting our new customer, Global Airlines, with its first A380 and seeing more aircraft of this type back in the sky,” said Jordi Boto, CEO of EFW.
“Joining forces with EFW is the next significant step in our quest to see our first A380 in the sky. 9H-GLOBL’s return journey to the skies has taken another significant step forward and I am excited to see our first aircraft fly to Dresden to move this work forward. We have overcome significant hurdles over the past 12 months and are now making great progress in our proposition, partnerships, team and operational readiness, and our partnership with EFW is the latest major step forward.” “I look forward to being in Dresden and seeing the work underway,” said James Asquith, CEO and founder of Global Airlines.
Several airlines have restarted the A380 on international routes and its recent strong return is expected to boost demand for its maintenance services. EFW is one of the few companies in the world with extensive MRO experience on the A380, having carried out around 50 major maintenance jobs, including cockpit modifications for the platform.
