Emirates is boosting its connectivity in South Africa with the addition of a fourth daily flight to Johannesburg, complementing the introduction of a second daily service on an Airbus A380
The fourth daily service will begin on 1 March 2025 and will operate on a three-class Boeing 777-300ER, providing an additional 708 seats to South Africa’s busiest airport, expanding the options for leisure and business travelers. EK767 will depart Dubai at 00:10 and arrive in Johannesburg at 06:20, the return flight, EK768 will depart from Dubai at 10:15 and land in Dubai at 20:15, expanding the airline’s schedule to incorporate a morning departure from Johannesburg.
“South Africa has long been a very popular destination for both leisure and business travelers connecting to and via Dubai, and the fourth daily flight allows us to better serve the growing demand for travel to and from the market. We would like to express our gratitude to the South African authorities for their collaboration and support in securing this new service, which restores the capacity we offered to South Africa pre-pandemic, with 49 weekly flights, via three gateways,” said Adnan Kazim, Emirates Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer.
The fourth daily flight will have convenient connections to destinations in Thailand, India, the United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands and Germany. Emirates customers from Johannesburg can access 60 regional destinations in Africa through codeshare and interline agreements with four partners: South African Airways, Airlink, Cemair and FlySafair.
In addition to optimising passenger service, the new service increases cargo capacity in South Africa, bringing 300 tonnes through the Boeing 777’s cargo hold each week. The new flight offers opportunities to move cargo to destinations such as London, Madrid, Kuwait, Hong Kong and, of course, Dubai.
Emirates began flights to Johannesburg in June 1995, and since then the airline has expanded its operations, introduced services to Cape Town and Durban and served more than 20 million passengers in this market. In October 2011 it introduced the Airbus A380 to Johannesburg for the first time.
