Costa Rica’s Guanacaste Airport Opens Tender for General Aviation Facility

Coriport, the concessionaire of the Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport in Liberia, Costa Rica, has launched a tender for the design, construction, and operation of the new general and business aviation passenger terminal.

According to a statement from Guanacaste Airport (the brand under which the terminal operates), the goal of this process is to ensure that the airport «has the operational and safety conditions for the efficient and continuous development of passenger traffic, from private flights, general aviation, business operations, among others.»

To make the project possible, Coriport will allocate an area of up to 2,403 square meters located on the west side of the main passenger terminal.

“We are delighted to announce this news, as it marks a significant step in the growing phenomenon in Guanacaste and Costa Rica — the increasing arrival of high-value travelers with significant purchasing power, consolidating this destination as a sought-after location worldwide. We look forward to unveiling this new general aviation terminal soon,” said César Jaramillo, general manager of Guanacaste Airport.

The concessionaire, part of the global Vinci Airports network, provided the timeline for the tender:

The terms and conditions will be sent digitally to interested parties who contact before Friday, October 13, and meet the requirements. To apply, emails should be sent to concursosLIR@guanacasteairport.com with a copy to natalia.camacho@guanacasteairport.com.

Since the beginning of the concession in 2010, Guanacaste Airport has implemented a significant development plan to boost passenger arrivals to the tourist hub of Costa Rica’s northwestern Pacific coast.

Between 2012 and 2019, passenger traffic doubled, reaching 1.22 million passengers annually. After the decline caused by the pandemic, these figures were surpassed in 2022, with 1.44 million passengers handled.

Guanacaste maintains a network of a dozen key destinations in the United States and Canada year-round, but during peak winter and summer seasons, this network nearly doubles, adding more airlines and flights, including transatlantic flights from cities like London, Zurich, or Amsterdam.

In October, according to data from Aviacionline via Cirium, Guanacaste offers the following services:

  • Atlanta (Delta Air Lines)
  • Charlotte-Douglas (American Airlines)
  • Denver (United Airlines)
  • Dallas-Fort Worth (American Airlines)
  • Newark (United Airlines)
  • Houston-Hobby (Southwest Airlines)
  • Houston-Intercontinental (United Airlines)
  • New York-JFK (Jetblue)
  • Los Angeles (Alaska Airlines)
  • Miami (American Airlines)
  • Nosara (Costa Rica Green Airways)
  • Montreal (Air Transat)
  • Toronto (Westjet, Air Canada, and Sunwing).
