Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) and Virgin Atlantic have entered into a new codeshare agreement set to begin on October 7. The partnership between the two SkyTeam members will offer passengers enhanced connectivity via London Heathrow, including new routes to Caribbean destinations such as Barbados, Jamaica, and Antigua.
According to the companies, this agreement will provide SAS customers with access to additional Virgin Atlantic destinations from Heathrow. As regulatory approvals are finalized, more routes will be added. Meanwhile, Virgin Atlantic passengers traveling from the U.S. and Canada will have seamless onward connections to SAS-operated flights to Stockholm, Oslo, Copenhagen, Stavanger, and Bergen.
This development follows SAS’s formal enrollment into the SkyTeam alliance on September 1. The airline highlights that members of its EuroBonus loyalty program will be able to immediately earn and redeem points when flying with Virgin Atlantic. Similarly, Virgin Atlantic’s Flying Club members will have access to the same benefits when traveling with SAS.
Among the advantages promoted by both airlines is access to SkyPriority services for top-tier loyalty members at both London Heathrow and SAS’s main hubs in Stockholm, Copenhagen, and Oslo. These services include priority check-in, baggage handling, and boarding.
Paul Verhagen, Chief Commercial Officer at SAS, commented: «We are very pleased to launch this new codeshare partnership with Virgin Atlantic, expanding SAS’s global reach and offering our customers even more travel options to exciting new destinations such as Barbados, Jamaica, and Antigua, with additional destinations to be introduced later.»
Juha Jarvinen, Chief Commercial Officer at Virgin Atlantic, added: «We’re delighted to launch a codeshare with our SkyTeam partners at SAS, enhancing our connectivity and offering greater benefits to our frequent flyers, who will be able to achieve rewards faster.»
This partnership strengthens both airlines’ positions in the market, expanding travel options for business and leisure passengers across Europe and North America.
