Volaris confirmed that it will add four new destinations in the United States from Monterrey International Airport (MTY) starting in the second quarter of 2025, strengthening its presence in the state of Nuevo León.
The new destinations will be Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW), Denver (DEN), Houston (IAH), and Miami (MIA), which will complement four others that the Mexican low-cost carrier had already announced it would begin serving from Monterrey starting in November: Chicago/O’Hare (ORD), Los Angeles (LAX), Oakland (OAK), and San Antonio (SAT).
The announcement comes amid the issues with Pratt & Whitney engines, which have caused a drop in passengers across its network, with several Airbus A320neo and A321neo aircraft grounded for inspection and maintenance.
Despite this situation, the addition of the new routes is a positive move as Volaris seeks to compete with Viva Aerobus, which has taken advantage of the situation despite facing similar fleet problems: the airline received compensation from Pratt & Whitney, which allowed it to achieve a moderate profit in the second quarter of the year.
«We are very excited to launch these new routes connecting the United States with Monterrey, as it aligns with our commitment to strengthen air connectivity for the benefit of our customers, especially in destinations with high tourism and business appeal, or for those who want to be closer to their friends and family,” said Holger Blankenstein, Executive Vice President of Volaris.
