United Airlines has unveiled its largest expansion ever, adding eight new destinations. From Newark, there will be new routes to Greenland, Italy, Spain, and Portugal, and the airline is also adding service from Washington-Dulles to Senegal, France and Italy.
United’s transatlantic schedule for the summer 2025 season solidifies its position as the U.S. carrier with the most flights across the Atlantic with more than 760 weekly flights. It is also moving forward and increasing service to popular vacation destinations in Italy, Spain, Greece, and Croatia.
United is expanding its short- and medium-haul flights at Tokyo-Narita by adding new service to Mongolia, Taiwan, and Palau, and in late October the airline is adding new intra-Asian service to Cebu, these new routes connecting with United’s transpacific operations from the Japanese capital to five destinations in the continental United States.
In total, next summer, United will offer 800 daily flights to/from 147 international destinations, including 40 where no other U.S. carrier serves.
Ulan Bator, Mongolia
United will be the only U.S. carrier to fly to Mongolia. Beginning May 1, 2025, it will begin nonstop seasonal service from Tokyo-Narita to Ulan Bator with three flights per week on Boeing 737-800s. Nearly half a million people have visited Mongolia in 2024, up 25% from the previous year.
Kaohsiung, Taiwan
Beginning July 11, 2025, United will be the only U.S. carrier to fly to Kaohsiung with year-round nonstop service from Tokyo-Narita with daily flights on Boeing 737-800s, bringing the carrier’s network to two destinations in Taiwan, complementing its two daily flights on the San Francisco-Taipei route.
Dakar, Senegal
United is expanding its African network from Washington-Dulles with new year-round service to Dakar with three weekly flights on Boeing 767-300ERs beginning May 23, 2025, complementing its flights to Lagos, Cape Town and Accra. In addition, the carrier also has services from Newark to Johannesburg, Marrakech and Cape Town.
Nuuk, Greenland
Next summer there will be a non-stop connection between the United States and Greenland, United will add a seasonal service between Newark and Nuuk with two weekly flights on a Boeing 737 MAX 8 starting June 14.
Palermo, Italy
United will be the second American airline to offer flights between the United States and Sicily, adding a non-stop connection between Newark and Palermo three times a week on a Boeing 767-400ER, increasing its network to five destinations in Italy, complementing with routes to Rome-Fiumicino, Milan-Malpensa, Venice and Naples.
Bilbao, Spain
United’s Spanish network will reach six more destinations than any other American airline, starting May 31 it will begin a non-stop service between Newark and Bilbao three times a week on a Boeing 757, offering the only transatlantic passenger route in the Basque Country.
In addition to its services to Madrid and Barcelona, it is the only U.S. airline to fly to Palma de Mallorca, Malaga, Tenerife-South and now Bilbao.
Madeira and Faro, Portugal
Next summer, United will serve five destinations in Portugal. From Newark, it will begin service to Faro with four weekly flights on a Boeing 757 starting May 16, 2025, and Madeira with three weekly flights on a Boeing 737 MAX 8 starting June 7, 2025. The airline also serves Lisbon, Porto and Ponta Delgada.
More international services
In Asia-Pacific, United will introduce year-round nonstop service between Tokyo-Narita and Koror, becoming the only U.S. airline to fly to Palau, which is also served from Guam and Manila.
The European offering from Washington-Dulles will have new services to Venice with daily flights starting on May 22, 2025 and Nice four times a week starting on May 24, 2025.
In Newark for next summer, services to Palma de Mallorca have increased from 4 to 5 weekly flights, Dubrovnik will increase from four times a week to daily operations, Athens will increase from 7 to 10 weekly flights and the connection to Venice begins on March 29, 2025. The Chicago O’Hare-Athens route increases capacity from Boeing 787-8s to 787-10s. The San Francisco-Barcelona service will begin on May 1, 2025.
