While landing at Antalya Airport, on Turkey’s southern coast, one of the engines of the Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SJ-100) operated by the Russian airline Azimuth caught fire.
The incident led to the temporary closure of the runway, resulting in the suspension of landings and delays in some departures. The runway is expected to reopen following an inspection carried out by technical teams.
Reports indicate that the aircraft was landing in adverse weather conditions when the fire was detected. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the causes of the engine fire, as reported by our affiliated media outlet, AEROIN.

The Sukhoi Superjet 100-95LR, registered as RA-89085, had departed from Sochi, Russia, carrying 79 passengers on flight A4-5051. After landing, all occupants were safely evacuated, and the fire was quickly controlled by emergency teams. There is no information yet regarding the current condition of the aircraft.
This SSJ100 was delivered to Azimuth Airlines in June 2017 and is equipped with Safran / NPO Saturn SaM146 engines. The airline, based at Platov International Airport serving Rostov-on-Don, operates a fleet of 20 Superjet 100-95 aircraft, making it the third-largest operator of the model in Russia.
Throughout its operational history, the Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ100) has been involved in several significant accidents and incidents. One of the most serious occurred on May 9, 2012, when an SSJ100 crashed into Mount Salak in Indonesia during a demonstration flight. This tragic accident resulted in the deaths of all 45 people on board, including Sukhoi personnel and airline representatives.
Another serious accident occurred on May 5, 2019, when Aeroflot flight 1492 made an emergency landing at Moscow Sheremetyevo International Airport. After takeoff, the aircraft returned to the airport, and during the landing, a fire erupted, claiming the lives of 41 of the 78 occupants.
On October 10, 2018, an SSJ100 operated by Yakutia Airlines suffered an incident during landing at Yakutsk Airport, where it skidded off the runway due to the collapse of the main landing gear. Although the 87 passengers and five crew members were evacuated without serious injuries, the aircraft was damaged beyond repair.
More recently, on July 12, 2024, an SSJ100 operated by Gazpromavia crashed near Kolomna during a post-repair test flight. This accident resulted in the deaths of the three crew members and raised concerns about maintenance and testing protocols for these aircraft.
