Colombia reports remarkable performance in air transportation during the first ten months of 2024, reaching a total of 46,499,000 passengers transported. This figure represents an increase of 15.9% compared to the same period in 2023, according to data published by the Civil Aviation Authority.
The growth of air transportation in the country is largely due to the expansion of routes by airlines, both domestically and internationally (2023 also felt the impact of Viva and Ultra Air ceasing operations). Between January and August, 21,739,000 passengers were transported on domestic routes and 15,211,000 on international routes, adding up to a total of 5,018,000 additional travelers compared to the same period last year.
In August 2024, 5,063,000 passengers were transported, of which 2,957,000 traveled within the country and 2,106,000 to international destinations. Overall, in the past twelve months, passenger transport reached 55,850,000 people, reflecting sustained consolidation of the sector.
The cargo and mail segment also shows a positive trend. Between January and October 2024, airlines operating in the country transported 775,515 tons, representing growth of 9% compared to the same period in 2023.
This increase is equivalent to 63,972 additional tons. In August 2024, 75,169 tons were transported, divided between 11,769 tons on domestic routes and 63,400 tons on international routes. Over the past twelve months, the total cargo and mail volume reached 933,079 tons, with an increase of 8.4%.
The dynamism of Colombia’s air sector, as highlighted by Aerocivil, reflects a joint effort between airlines and authorities to optimize both domestic and international connectivity.
