Norwegian will reopen its pilot base at Stockholm-Arlanda Airport starting in the spring of 2025. This base had to be closed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to Swedish pilots being relocated to other Norwegian bases, primarily the airline’s base in Oslo.
The Swedish government has eliminated the aviation tax. This decision aims to promote and support the aviation sector, which is why Norwegian has decided to reopen the pilot base at Stockholm-Arlanda.
“We are very pleased to be able to establish a pilot base at Arlanda once again and thus offer our pilots a Swedish base so that they do not have to relocate to one of our other bases. The aviation market in Sweden has improved significantly over the past year, and this, combined with the fact that the aviation tax will disappear on July 1, 2025, means that we strongly believe in the Swedish aviation industry,» said Geir Karlsen, CEO of Norwegian.
Initially, Norwegian will have about 60 pilots at Stockholm-Arlanda, complementing the existing cabin crew base at the Swedish airport, which has approximately 200 team members. Currently, Norwegian operates 12 bases in Europe, with the newest one located in Las Palmas.
Norwegian employs around 8,500 people. Most of them work in Norway (Oslo, Trondheim, Bergen, and Stavanger) or at the airline’s headquarters in Fornebu, Bærum. The company also has offices in Riga and Barcelona, as well as bases in Alicante and Málaga.
