Aer Lingus ATR Suffers Landing Gear Collapse in Belfast: What We Know
An Emerald Airlines aircraft, operating for Aer Lingus, experienced the collapse of its nose landing gear during a landing at Belfast City Airport. The incident occurred around 4:00 PM when the aircraft, arriving from Edinburgh, was conducting a positioning flight with no passengers on board. All four crew members were uninjured.
Adverse weather conditions, including strong winds, contributed to a hard landing that caused the collapse of the nose landing gear. As a result, the aircraft came to a stop on the runway, leading to the airport’s closure for the rest of the day. This caused delays and flight diversions to other airports, such as Belfast International Airport, which quickly reached its maximum capacity.
Emerald Airlines, which has been operating Aer Lingus’ regional routes since 2022, confirmed that there were no passengers on board at the time of the incident and that the four crew members are safe. Airport authorities urged passengers to contact their airlines for updated information regarding their flights. Emergency services remained on-site to manage the situation and ensure safety at the airport.
