Avianca Airbus A320

Avianca began operating the Bogotá-Arauca route with four weekly flights, using Airbus A320 aircraft with a capacity for 180 passengers. This represents an offering of 1,440 weekly seats on this new connection, aimed at improving air connectivity to the department of Arauca.

The flights are available through the airline’s usual sales channels, including its website and travel agencies.

Application to operate to Quibdó

In addition to the launch of the route to Arauca, Avianca submitted an application to the Civil Aeronautics Authority of Colombia to operate flights between Bogotá and Quibdó. The proposal includes the use of Airbus A319, A320ceo, and A320neo aircraft, with capacities ranging from 150 to 180 seats, and a frequency of up to four weekly flights.

This application represents a reduction compared to the one submitted in July of this year, which proposed up to seven weekly flights. In the case of Quibdó, operations will depend on upgrades to the El Caraño Airport, necessary to accommodate larger aircraft such as the A320.

Competition and existing connectivity

Currently, Arauca and Quibdó already have regular connections to Bogotá operated by other airlines. SATENA operates two daily flights from Arauca and one from Quibdó, while CLIC! offers one daily flight to Arauca and 11 weekly flights to the Department of Chocó.

The inclusion of these routes strengthens Avianca’s domestic expansion, as the airline already operates 25 domestic destinations and over 80 international ones. However, logistical challenges, such as the conditions at El Caraño Airport in Quibdó, could impact the development of this new connection.
