Gol Linhas Aéreas resumed its flights to Cancún (CUN), Mexico, which were suspended in February 2023, leaving many passengers with limited options for rescheduling. The company will initially operate three times per week from Brasilia (BSB). Gol will be the only airline connecting Cancún with Brazil, as LATAM and Aeroméxico fly to Mexico City (MEX), both from São Paulo/Guarulhos (GRU).
“The return to Cancún, a destination of international renown, represents an important step in GOL’s international expansion. The unique combination of paradisiacal beaches, nature, and culture is highly desirable to many Customers,” said Rafael Araújo, GOL’s Executive Director of Planning.
Initially, Gol will have two weekly flights on its Boeing 737 MAX 8, with a capacity of 176 passengers, offering 704 seats per week. According to Brazil’s ANAC, in 2022, the airline transported 46,792 passengers on this route.
«The resumption of air routes aligns with the current state of our economy, including the increase in Brazilian purchasing power, the lowest unemployment rate in recent years, and the highest number of passengers transported in the international market this century. We expect to further enhance air connectivity by expanding routes and including new passengers in aviation,” commented Sílvio Costa Filho, Minister of Ports and Airports.
The new destination joins Aruba (AUA) and San José (SJO), Costa Rica, from São Paulo/Guarulhos, both recently inaugurated. This highlights a clear focus on leisure and beach destinations, accompanying its current operations to Punta Cana (PUJ), Dominican Republic; Orlando (MCO) and Miami (MIA), United States; and Mendoza (MDZ), Argentina, which are popular with Brazilian tourists.
