The Incident
Flight 3041 was en route from El Bajío (BJX) to Tijuana (TIJ) when the disruption occurred. According to Volaris, the individual tried to breach the cockpit using physical force, triggering a rapid response from the crew. Following aviation security protocols, the crew contained the threat and diverted the flight to Guadalajara International Airport. Upon landing, Mario «N» was detained by the National Guard.
Volaris assured that all 170 passengers and crew members were unharmed and safe.
A Second Incident: Patrol Car Crash
While being transported to the Federal Attorney General’s Office (FGR), Mario «N» allegedly resisted the authorities, causing a patrol car to crash into a fence at a business on González Gallo Avenue. The crash led to injuries for the suspect, who was later treated at a local medical facility before being returned to custody.
Legal Consequences
The Federal Penal Code (Article 170) stipulates severe penalties for attempting to hijack an aircraft, including prison sentences of 3 to 20 years and fines ranging from 100 to 400 days’ wages. The FGR has initiated an investigation, and Volaris has committed to pursuing legal action against Mario «N» to ensure justice.
