What began as a routine domestic flight turned into a high-stakes security situation aboard Volaris flight 3041 on Sunday morning. A passenger, identified as Mario «N,» attempted to forcibly take control of the Airbus A320, aiming to redirect it to the United States. Thanks to the swift actions of the flight crew, a potential tragedy was averted.

The Incident

Flight 3041 was en route from El Bajío (BJX) to Tijuana (TIJ) when the disruption occurred. According to Volaris, the individual tried to breach the cockpit using physical force, triggering a rapid response from the crew. Following aviation security protocols, the crew contained the threat and diverted the flight to Guadalajara International Airport. Upon landing, Mario «N» was detained by the National Guard.

Volaris assured that all 170 passengers and crew members were unharmed and safe.

A Second Incident: Patrol Car Crash

While being transported to the Federal Attorney General’s Office (FGR), Mario «N» allegedly resisted the authorities, causing a patrol car to crash into a fence at a business on González Gallo Avenue. The crash led to injuries for the suspect, who was later treated at a local medical facility before being returned to custody.

Legal Consequences

The Federal Penal Code (Article 170) stipulates severe penalties for attempting to hijack an aircraft, including prison sentences of 3 to 20 years and fines ranging from 100 to 400 days’ wages. The FGR has initiated an investigation, and Volaris has committed to pursuing legal action against Mario «N» to ensure justice.

Safety First

Volaris emphasized its commitment to passenger safety, stating, «We are grateful for the professionalism of our crew and the swift actions taken to ensure the safety of all on board.» The airline facilitated the continuation of travel for all passengers to their final destination in Tijuana without further disruptions.
