3.4% increase in domestic flights during the end-of-year season in Colombia
Bogotá, Antioquia, and Bolívar account for most of the domestic air traffic, but destinations such as Guainía, Vaupés, and Vichada are experiencing significant increases.
During the year-end season in Colombia, domestic air traffic experienced a growth of 3.4%. A total of more than 10.3 million passengers traveled on domestic and international flights during December 2024 and January 2025, representing an 8% increase compared to the same period last year. Of this total, 5.8 million passengers were on domestic flights, marking a 3.4% increase compared to the previous season.
The main regions with the highest concentration of passengers on domestic flights were: Bogotá (36%), Antioquia (15%), Bolívar (8%), Valle del Cauca (7%), and Magdalena (6%). However, other destinations with strong tourist appeal, such as Guainía (67%), Guaviare and Vaupés (43%), as well as Vichada (34%), saw significant growth during this holiday season.
Although domestic tourism continues to grow, Paula Cortés Calle, Executive President of the Colombian Association of Travel Agencies and Tourism (ANATO), highlighted that only 7.8% of Colombians travel within the country. In this regard, she emphasized the need to encourage more domestic travelers to visit different destinations by diversifying the offerings of travel agencies.
Cortés added that ANATO has intensified its efforts to train tourism sector entrepreneurs, aiming to improve competitiveness in various regions of the country and offer a more varied and attractive range of options for travelers.
