Aerolíneas Argentinas and the government of the province of San Luis have agreed to continue flights between Merlo and Buenos Aires under the Sustainable Connectivity Program.
According to a statement from the national airline, the Sustainable Connectivity Program ensures that the provincial government covers costs if flight occupancy falls below profitable margins, thereby guaranteeing the continuity of the route.
Under this agreement, Aerolíneas Argentinas secures cost coverage and operational profitability, while the province benefits from the airline's continued service to this tourist destination. Both parties have also committed to promotional efforts to achieve commercial success.
Fabián Lombardo, President of Aerolíneas Argentinas, stated:
"These agreements represent a positive step forward in improving the airline's financial performance while fostering greater commercial transparency for each route. They also create a mutual commitment to growing the destination’s tourism and economic development."
Currently, Aerolíneas Argentinas operates two weekly flights to Merlo from July to March, but under this new agreement, the route will now be available year-round, including April to June.
The airline also operates a daily flight to the city of San Luis.
