Aerolineas Argentinas to resume flights to Cuba

As of July 4, Aerolíneas Argentinas returns to Havana (HAV), Cuba, after having suspended operations on July 31, 2016, citing low occupancy and profitability at the time.

Between 2015 and 2016, the company operated Boeing 737-800 aircraft with a stopover in Caracas (CCS), Venezuela, twice a week. The last months of operations were performed under Airbus A340-300 aircraft.

According to the company’s reservation system, it will return with three weekly flights (Monday, Thursday and Friday) with a stopover in Punta Cana (PUJ), Dominican Republic, with Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft with a capacity for 170 passengers.

The new offer to the Caribbean is in addition to the current direct service between Punta Cana and Buenos Aires on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Current regulations from the aviation authorities of Cuba and the Dominican Republic do not allow the use of the 5th freedom of the air, i.e. foreign companies cannot transport passengers, mail and cargo to a third nation departing from those countries.
