The Aeroméxico Group reported that due to the exponential growth of its cargo operations subsidiary over the past five years, an investment of over $5 million was made to remodel its main terminal, located at the Mexico City International Airport (AICM).
In a statement, the company noted that this facility spans an area of 6,500 square meters, where an average of 750 customers are served daily.
«In this way, this infrastructure has become a key link in the logistics chain for Aeroméxico Cargo’s domestic operations,» stated the Group in a press release shared on LinkedIn.
The airline explained that the remodeling efforts focused on optimizing spaces, resulting in a 30% increase in warehouse capacity. Additionally, new X-ray machines were installed.
More space for maneuvers
It was also disclosed that other changes made through the investment included creating an area exceeding 500 square meters for cargo loading and unloading maneuvers, along with new counters to provide faster and more efficient customer service.
Two cold storage rooms will be implemented for handling perishable cargo, as well as two temperature-controlled rooms for storing medicines, it added.
«These improvements will primarily benefit our customers by streamlining operational processes, accommodating increased cargo volume, and offering modern and comfortable spaces,» commented Alejandro Méndez, Senior Vice President of Aeroméxico Cargo.
It was also stated that Aeroméxico Cargo is a national leader in air cargo transportation, moving an average of 3,600 tons per month in the domestic market, representing an annual growth of 24%.
Additionally, the company highlighted its extensive network of national and international destinations. Its client portfolio includes courier companies, laboratories, publishers, distributors, and the general public.
«Last Monday, we celebrated the inauguration of the renovated facilities of our Domestic Cargo Terminal T2, in an event attended by Santiago Diago, Executive Vice President of Operations, Alejandro Méndez, Senior Vice President of Aeroméxico Cargo, as well as collaborators, customers, and members of the press,» the statement reads.
The release concludes by affirming that “the project was completed after 11 months of work” and achieved the following:
▪️ A 30% increase in warehouse capacity.
▪️ An additional 500 square meters for maneuvering in the acceptance area.
▪️ Doubling the number of docks for cargo reception and delivery.
▪️ More efficient inspection and documentation processes at counters.
▪️ Allocation of a dedicated space for pet storage.
