Air Europa implements an AI system to locate items forgotten by passengers
The methodology is already active in several Spanish airports.
The Spanish airline Air Europa continues to innovate to improve customer experience, following the signing of an agreement with fellow Spanish company Foundspot to digitize and streamline the process of locating items left behind on board. The technological solution makes the procedure faster and more efficient, giving passengers a quick and practical way to recover their belongings.
The system uses a unique algorithm based on artificial intelligence (AI). When a passenger realizes something is missing, they can access a special page from Air Europa and Foundspot, where they provide details about the item, where they think they left it, and the approximate time.
The technology cross-references this information with items found by the Air Europa team, which are stored and logged in the platform. If there’s a match, the team confirms the identification. Once validated, the passenger receives an email with a form to request the item’s return, delivered anywhere in the world, according to media partner Aeroin.
The AI system is already in use at several Spanish airports, including Madrid-Barajas, Palma de Mallorca, Barcelona, Málaga, Valencia, Alicante, Bilbao, Ibiza, Gran Canaria, and Lanzarote. As well as offering greater convenience for passengers, the solution significantly reduces the time needed to locate items, optimizes storage space, and increases the recovery rate by between 80% and 400%, helping passengers avoid the unnecessary replacement of lost items.
