Airbus Helicopters has delivered two H225M helicopters to the French Directorate General of Armaments (DGA), marking the start of fulfilling an order placed in 2021, as reported on the European manufacturer’s official website.
These helicopters are the first of eight units ordered by France to replace the Puma helicopters currently operating in overseas territories such as French Guiana, Djibouti, and New Caledonia. The delivery is part of a broader effort to harmonize the fleet of the French Air and Space Force. The new aircraft will serve operational, search and rescue, and utility missions.
“The delivery of these two new H225M helicopters to the French Air and Space Force is very symbolic, as France was the first operator of the H225M,” said Bruno Even, CEO of Airbus Helicopters. “They have repeatedly demonstrated their value in combat, search and rescue, disaster management, and medical evacuation missions.”
Even added that the French Air and Space Force will benefit from the technological innovations introduced in the H225M since it began service in 2006, further expanding the aircraft’s capabilities.
The eight helicopters feature cutting-edge technology, including the Safran Euroflir 410 electro-optical system, Sigma inertial navigation system, Thales VUHF TRA6034 radio, and IFF (Identification Friend or Foe) TSC4000 transponder.
According to Airbus, the H225M has proven its reliability and durability in combat and crisis zones worldwide. Currently, more than 350 H225 and H225M helicopters are in service globally, accumulating over 880,000 flight hours. Key military customers include France, Malaysia, Indonesia, Iraq, Thailand, Singapore, Mexico, the Netherlands, Kuwait, Brazil, and Hungary.
