Allegiant Air has adjusted its fleet expansion strategy for 2025, modifying its expectations for Boeing 737 MAX 8-200 deliveries due to uncertainty caused by delays in the U.S. manufacturer's production.
During the Q4 2024 earnings call, Gregory Anderson, the airline’s president and CEO, confirmed that Boeing plans to deliver 12 aircraft of this model to Allegiant this year. However, the airline has opted to plan its operations based on the arrival of only nine aircraft, aiming to prevent a mismatch between the number of certified pilots and actual aircraft availability.
Adjustments in Planning Amid Delays
This revision comes in response to previous delays experienced with this model. In 2022, Allegiant Air signed an agreement for 100 units of the 737 MAX 8-200, consisting of 50 firm orders and 50 options.

Later, in 2023, the airline added 30 more options. However, deliveries were significantly delayed, and the first 737 MAX 8-200 did not arrive until September 2024—six months later than originally planned.
Boeing's Recovery in Aircraft Deliveries
The U.S. manufacturer has shown signs of recovering its production pace after operational challenges in 2023 and 2024. Despite accumulated delays, Allegiant Air received more aircraft than expected in the last quarter of 2024, closing the year with four units in service instead of just one, as initially projected.
Boeing’s performance in 2025 remains uncertain. The company still faces regulatory and logistical pressures, particularly regarding the certification of the 737 MAX 7 and 737 MAX 10, which could affect its delivery capacity in the coming months.
Meanwhile, Allegiant Air remains cautious and will continue adapting its fleet planning based on actual aircraft availability, while progressing with its transition to a combination of Boeing 737 MAX 8-200 and Airbus A320ceo aircraft.
