An American Airlines employee died in a ramp accident at Charlotte airport
A similar incident was recorded at the same airport in 2019.
An American Airlines employee died in an accident that occurred on one of the ramps at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, in the area adjacent to the passenger loading slots.
“Our most sincere condolences go out to the family, friends, and colleagues of the employee during this difficult time,” airport officials said in a statement confirming the death.
In the statement, the authorities indicated that they are working closely with the airline and emergency services on the ongoing investigation and that support is being provided as needed.
“We are devastated by the accident that affected a member of our team,” American Airlines said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and members of our local team. We are focused on ensuring that everyone involved has the support they need during this difficult moment.”
While a passenger on a nearby plane told WCNC Charlotte that they saw the employee appear to have been struck by a vehicle on the ramp, airport officials stated that only one vehicle was involved in the incident.
“Emergency and medical teams responded to an incident on the ramp at Charlotte Douglas International Airport,” airport officials said in a brief statement at the time of the incident. “There are no significant impacts on operations, and more information will be provided soon.”
In 2019, another American Airlines employee died while working at the airport. The airline was fined nearly $20,000 by North Carolina investigators, who found hazardous working conditions. In that incident, Kendrick Hudson died when the tug he was driving collided with a piece of luggage on the runway and overturned.
