All Nippon Airways (ANA) has expanded its European network with the launch of nonstop flights between Tokyo-Haneda and Stockholm-Arlanda, becoming the second airline to offer a direct connection between Japan and Scandinavia. This new route marks the return of direct air travel between the two cities after decades.
The inaugural flight, NH221, was operated by a Boeing 787-8 registered as JA814A. It departed Tokyo-Haneda Airport at 12:49 AM local time on January 31 and arrived at Stockholm-Arlanda Airport at 5:59 AM, completing the journey in 13 hours and 10 minutes.
"I am very happy to welcome ANA – All Nippon Airways – to Stockholm Arlanda Airport. ANA's investment strengthens Sweden’s connectivity and further enhances our range of destinations for travelers flying for business or to visit friends and family. The relationship between Japan and Sweden has a long history, and we share a mutual interest in maintaining excellent connectivity between our countries," said Jonas Abrahamsson, President and CEO of Swedavia.
Japan is a key trade partner for Sweden, with approximately 150 Swedish companies operating in Japan and 180 Japanese companies running businesses in Sweden.
ANA’s European network currently includes flights to London-Heathrow, Frankfurt, Brussels, Paris-Charles de Gaulle, Munich, Vienna, and Milan-Malpensa, with Istanbul set to join in February 2025.
