Arajet launches regular flights to San Juan, Puerto Rico
Dominican airline Arajet began regular operations to the Puerto Rican capital on Wednesday, June 4, 2025. Inaugural flight DM2320 departed from Las Américas International Airport (SDQ) at 12:20 p.m. local time and, after a short journey of approximately 40 minutes, landed at Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU).
This new service includes four weekly flights, operating on Mondays, Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. According to the company, the route aims to "strengthen commercial ties and bring the Dominican diaspora closer to the neighboring island." Arajet’s fleet, made up of Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, will serve this route.
Additionally, Arajet will expand its presence in Puerto Rico starting June 6, with the launch of direct flights between San Juan and Punta Cana (PUJ). This route will feature three weekly services, scheduled for Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. With these operations, Arajet expects to offer over 88,000 seats between the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico in 2025.
David Collado, Dominican Republic’s Minister of Tourism, who attended the flight’s departure in Santo Domingo, emphasized the importance of improving air connectivity for the country. He also highlighted the government’s efforts, such as the completion of the Open Skies agreement with the United States, which "allows airlines like Arajet to launch important new routes such as San Juan, Puerto Rico, and now also offer services to Chicago, Boston, Orlando, among other U.S. cities."
Arajet founder and CEO Víctor Pacheco stated during the event that this inaugural flight marks "the beginning of our commitment to the Puerto Rican people, offering efficient and more affordable travel options, connecting this beautiful sister city with the entire continent, and strengthening tourism and cultural exchange between our nations."
Arajet’s arrival was celebrated at Luis Muñoz Marín Airport, with Puerto Rico Governor Jenniffer González, San Juan Mayor Miguel Romero, and Puerto Rico Tourism Company Executive Director Willianette Robles in attendance. For Robles, "these new connections represent a significant step in expanding access options and strengthening cultural, tourism, and commercial ties between Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic."
Jorge Hernández, President of Aerostar Puerto Rico, the operator of San Juan’s airport, said this development enhances air connectivity between Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, "one of the region’s busiest travel markets." He noted that over the past year, "around 700,000 passengers traveled between the two destinations, a figure that reflects the deep economic, cultural, and familial bonds we share. These new routes open the door to even more opportunities for exchange and growth for both nations."
Founded in September 2022, Arajet aims to position Santo Domingo as a regional hub in the Caribbean, offering connections through its bases in the Dominican capital and Punta Cana. Passengers from Puerto Rico will have access to 11 destinations in Arajet’s network, which includes cities in Aruba, Jamaica, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, and Peru, among others. The airline plans to close 2025 with a network of 28 destinations across 17 countries, offering more than 250 connection options throughout the Americas.
