Arajet promotes first Dominican pilots to captains of its Boeing 737 MAX 8 fleet
Arajet marked a historic milestone with the promotion of Víctor Cruz and Yoryi Bonilla as the first Dominican captains of its Boeing 737 MAX 8 fleet. The airline highlights its commitment to developing local talent with ongoing training programs to meet the growing demand for aviation professionals in the Dominican Republic
Arajet celebrated the promotion of the first Dominican pilots to captains of its Boeing 737 MAX 8 fleet. Víctor Cruz and Yoryi Bonilla, who began their careers at the airline as first officers, met all the requirements and passed the necessary exams to achieve their certification. They accumulated 5,000 flight hours, more than 1,000 of which were in this aircraft model.
The General Director of IDAC, Igor Rodríguez Durán, personally visited Arajet's facilities at Las Américas International Airport (SDQ) to congratulate the Dominican pilots for their efforts and achievements. He also commended the company for its programs aimed at fostering local talent and promoting the growth of commercial aviation in the country.
Arajet’s Chief Operating Officer, Garret Malone, stated: “The biggest challenge we face in the Dominican Republic is talent. Arajet will need more than 200 additional pilots and over 100 technicians in the coming years. We must make a greater effort to train and transfer knowledge to Dominican personnel. With these promotions, we hope these captains will be the first of many to become instructors for future national pilots, thus building the flagship airline we aspire to create.”
Building on these achievements, Arajet announced it will continue its cadet program, allowing pilots from the Dominican Republic with minimal flight hours to train within Arajet and Boeing’s academy until they can become part of the airline's pilot workforce.
