Arajet achieved a historic milestone by surpassing one million passengers in 2024, becoming the first Dominican airline to reach this figure in a single year. The company also solidified its expansion with the inauguration of its new base at Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ).
During November, Arajet transported 96,586 passengers, representing 7% of the travelers who entered or exited the Dominican Republic that month. This figure, highlighted in the report by the Civil Aviation Board (JAC), confirms the airline’s exponential growth since it began operations in September 2022. According to the airline, this new base in Punta Cana will allow for greater connectivity for passengers while maintaining key operations from Santo Domingo/Las Américas (SDQ).With the expansion in Punta Cana, Arajet will operate at three Dominican airports, increasing its routes to and from the country from 20 to 28, a growth of 19.5%.
- Buenos Aires/Ezeiza (EZE): 7 weekly flights (8 starting in December).
- São Paulo (GRU): 7 weekly flights.
- Montreal (YUL): 5 weekly flights (7 in December).
- Mexico City (NLU): 5 weekly flights.
- Lima (LIM): 4 weekly flights.
The combination of operations from PUJ and SDQ allows Arajet to serve key markets such as Mexico and Colombia, which accounted for 41% of the total passengers transported between January and August 2024.
Growth and projections
The airline, which currently operates a fleet of 10 Boeing 737 MAX 8 configured for 185 passengers, projects closing 2024 with 1.2 million passengers. This growth is supported by route expansion and its low-cost model.
Additionally, according to the Cirium platform, Arajet expects to receive 18 additional aircraft by 2029, with an option for seven more, reinforcing its commitment to connecting the continent from Canada to Argentina.
The CEO and founder of Arajet, Víctor Pacheco, highlighted the impact of the new base in Punta Cana, saying, «For Arajet, it is a firm commitment to continue democratizing the skies and connecting the continent from Canada to Argentina at the best market price with world-class service.”
Meanwhile, Giovanni Rainieri, Director of Airside Operations at Punta Cana Airport, stated, «This strategic alliance aligns with our mission to remain the airport with the highest air traffic in the Dominican Republic, receiving 68% of the tourists arriving in our country.”
