Argentina and Dominican Republic Sign Open Skies Agreement to Boost Connectivity
Argentina and the Dominican Republic have signed a bilateral open skies agreement, adding the Caribbean nation to the list of 11 countries with which Argentina has signed such agreements. According to the National Government, this measure aims to consolidate the open skies policy in the region and expand connectivity options for passengers and airlines.
The agreement removes frequency restrictions on routes between the two countries, which previously allowed a maximum of 14 weekly flights. Airlines will now be able to adjust the number of flights based on market conditions and seasonal demand. Additionally, it establishes the possibility of operating cargo flights under the «seventh freedom of the air,» allowing flights that neither begin nor end in the airline’s home country.
The agreement was signed by Argentina’s Secretary of Transportation, Franco Mogetta, and the President of the Dominican Republic’s Civil Aviation Board, Héctor Porcella Dumas. Other attendees included the Dominican ambassador to Argentina, Gustavo Hernando Castillo, and Argentina’s ambassador to the Dominican Republic, María Sandra Winkler.
The agreement will not only expand direct connectivity between the two countries but also enhance connections with other nations in the region. The offerings for this summer season are as follows:
- Aerolíneas Argentinas
- Buenos Aires/Ezeiza – Punta Cana (PUJ): one daily flight
- Córdoba – Punta Cana: four weekly flights
- Rosario – Punta Cana: one weekly flight
- Tucumán – Punta Cana: one weekly flight
- Arajet:
- Punta Cana – Buenos Aires/Ezeiza: eight weekly flights
The Dominican Republic thus joins the countries that already have open skies agreements with Argentina, including Brazil, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Canada, Panama, Uruguay, Paraguay, Mexico, and Rwanda.
