Avelo Airlines continues its international expansion with the launch of direct flights to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, from Hartford and Raleigh-Durham, becoming the only airline to operate both routes. The low-cost carrier initially expanded its international network with Cancún (Mexico) and later Montego Bay (Jamaica).
The flights will operate twice weekly:
- Hartford – Punta Cana: Mondays and Fridays
- Raleigh-Durham – Punta Cana: Wednesdays and Saturdays
Both routes will be operated with Boeing 737 Next Generation aircraft, offering a total of 1,352 weekly seats in both directions. Promotional fares start at $156.
The inaugural flight, XP 932, was operated with a Boeing 737 registered N806VL. It departed from Bradley International Airport in Hartford at 07:42 AM (local time) on February 21, landing at Punta Cana International Airport at 12:05 PM after a flight time of 3 hours and 23 minutes.
The launch ceremony included executives from Punta Cana International Airport and Avelo Airlines, along with political, community, and business leaders.
With this new service, Avelo becomes the ninth U.S. airline to operate flights to Punta Cana, joining American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Frontier Airlines, JetBlue, Spirit Airlines, Sun Country Airlines, Southwest, and United Airlines.
"This route expansion marks a significant milestone for both Avelo Airlines and Punta Cana Airport (PUJ), highlighting their shared commitment to providing travelers with convenient flight options. It also reinforces the airport’s position as a key hub in the Caribbean region. We are delighted to celebrate the launch of this new air route together," said Giovanni Rainieri, Director of Airside Operations at Punta Cana Airport.
