Argentina: A Key Hub for Airborne Horse Logistics
According to data from Argentina’s Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries and the Ministry of Economy, cited by Infobae, over 1,400 horses were exported via air transport during the first four months of 2024, solidifying Argentina as a strategic hub for equine logistics.

The main destinations for these exports were the United States, the United Kingdom, and Japan, which together accounted for 68.4% of the total export value. The United States received 29.2%, followed by the United Kingdom with 27.8%, and Japan with 11.3%.
Polo Drives Argentina’s Equine Exports
Polo remains the primary driver of Argentina’s equine exports: 1,233 horses (equivalent to 84% of the total) were destined for this sport, with a total export value of $6.98 million. Other exported horses included thoroughbreds for racing, equestrian sports, and traditional Criollo working horses.
Logistics and Compliance
From a logistics standpoint, 96% of exported horses departed from Ezeiza International Airport, while the Gualeguaychú border checkpoint served as the main exit point for land transport.
Companies handling equine transport must comply with SENASA regulations, which include vehicle certification and required documentation.
