Since last October, Avianca had put tickets on sale for the new routes that would connect Medellín with Guayaquil and Bogotá with Havana, which were finally inaugurated this December 16.
The airline operates the following routes with Airbus A320 aircraft, which have a capacity for 180 passengers:
- Medellín-Guayaquil: Three weekly flights (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday), offering 1,080 seats per week.
- Bogotá-Havana: One daily flight (Monday to Sunday), with a total offer of 2,500 weekly seats.
The Bogotá-Havana route marks Avianca’s return to the Cuban capital, after operations were suspended in 2020. According to David Alemán, the airline’s Sales Director for Colombia and South America, this direct connection will allow “thousands of passengers to connect from different parts of the world with Havana’s culture through Bogotá.”
The flight departed from Bogotá’s El Dorado airport at 12:35 and arrived in Havana at 16:00. On the return leg, it departed from Havana at 17:10, arriving in Bogotá at 20:25.
Avianca reminded that U.S. citizens and passengers in transit from the United States must comply with the 12 permitted categories established by the U.S. government for traveling to Cuba, due to current restrictions.
Competition on the Bogotá-Havana route
With this operation, Avianca will compete with Wingo, which currently offers four weekly flights on the same route. Avianca’s daily frequency represents a competitive advantage, offering greater connectivity options.
Tickets are already available through Avianca’s channels.
