A Boeing 737-8 MAX with over 100 flight hours has joined GOL Linhas Aéreas' fleet. Originally a test aircraft for Boeing and painted in Southwest Airlines' livery, it now strengthens GOL’s strategy of operating next-generation aircraft.
A Boeing 737-8 MAX with a unique past has joined GOL Linhas Aéreas' fleet, reinforcing its strategy of operating next-generation aircraft. The plane, registered as PS-GPQ and with serial number 42,556, arrived in Brazil after a technical stop in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
The 737 departed the United States on the night of January 16 on flight G3-3974 and landed the next morning at Belo Horizonte International Airport, in Confins, where GOL conducts maintenance and nationalization processes for its newly acquired aircraft.
A plane with history
This aircraft, while never operated by another airline, is not entirely new. Manufactured in 2016, it was used by Boeing as a test aircraft under the registration N8703J until 2021. Later, it was painted in Southwest Airlines' livery, but it was never delivered to the U.S. airline. Finally, the plane was assigned to GOL's fleet, arriving in Brazil with over 100 flight hours recorded.
According to information from Aeroin, this is the fourth Boeing 737 MAX-8 added by GOL since December 2024. With this delivery, the airline now operates 53 units of this model, out of a total fleet of more than 130 aircraft.
The PS-GPQ is part of GOL's commitment to maintaining a modern and efficient fleet, with its maintenance center in Belo Horizonte playing a crucial role in these operations.
