Boeing donates $1 million for Southern California wildfire relief efforts
Boeing announced a $1 million donation to support key organizations providing relief and recovery in Southern California after devastating wildfires. The company is also implementing an employee matching program to strengthen aid efforts for affected communities
Boeing will donate $1 million through the Boeing Charitable Trust to support relief and recovery operations in areas affected by the devastating wildfires ravaging Southern California. The company reported that the funds will be allocated to key organizations providing assistance in the impacted regions.
Distribution of funds
According to a statement, the resources will be allocated as follows:
• $400,000 to the American Red Cross, which is operating emergency shelters and providing food, medical care, and emotional support to wildfire victims.
• $300,000 to the California Community Foundation's Wildfire Recovery Fund, to aid underserved communities in their recovery process.
• $200,000 to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, which supplies food, hygiene products, and other essential items to affected individuals.
• $100,000 to the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, to acquire emergency equipment, fire shelters, hydration packs, and mental health support supplies for firefighters.
Employee matching donation program
In addition to the direct contribution, Boeing has launched an employee matching donation program, enabling the company to match contributions from its workers to disaster relief organizations. This initiative amplifies collective efforts to assist affected communities.
"Our thoughts are with those impacted by the wildfires in Los Angeles," the company stated in a post on X, emphasizing the work of the beneficiary organizations and its commitment to supporting emergency efforts.
Impact of wildfires and humanitarian efforts
As of January 24, the wildfires known as Palisades and Eaton have caused at least 28 fatalities, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office. Authorities have issued evacuation orders for mountain communities north of Los Angeles, where fires are spreading rapidly due to strong winds.
Animal rescue organizations, such as Wings of Rescue and Paws for Life K9 Rescue, are also mobilizing resources to help animals displaced by the wildfires. These efforts include airlifting dogs and cats to shelters in states such as Oregon, Texas, and Pennsylvania, to free up space in local shelters.
Boeing’s presence in California
Boeing employs approximately 14,000 people in California, working in areas like aerospace engineering, military aircraft maintenance, and satellite manufacturing. However, the company recently laid off 566 workers in the state, most of them from facilities in Southern California, including Seal Beach, Long Beach, and El Segundo.
This is not the first time Boeing has stepped up to assist in natural disasters. In 2020, the company donated $700,000 to communities affected by wildfires on the U.S. West Coast, focusing on food supplies and assistance for displaced families.
