The Federal Police (PF) of Brazil reported that, in a joint operation with the Brazilian Army (EB), they have intensified the routine inspections at São Gabriel da Cachoeira Airport in Amazonas.
According to our partner outlet in Brazil, Aeroin, the goal of the operation is to prevent and suppress federal crimes and the continuation of activities by criminal organizations. During the inspection, the PF also used K9 detection dogs.
The municipality of São Gabriel da Cachoeira borders Venezuela and Colombia, being one of the main routes for international drug trafficking, especially by air.
As seen just over a month ago, the Civil Police of Amazonas arrested three Brazilian Air Force personnel on suspicion of involvement in transporting drugs on FAB aircraft, as well as two civilians suspected of the crime, during Operation Caída en el Cielo, carried out by the Specialized Delegation of São Gabriel da Cachoeira.
Last year, within less than two weeks, two passengers were arrested before boarding aircraft departing from Uaupés Regional Airport, located in the municipality of São Gabriel da Cachoeira, with destinations to Manaus.
