SWISS International Air Lines announced that it will add five additional Airbus A350-900 aircraft starting in 2027, complementing the five already on order. Deliveries of these new wide-body aircraft are expected to take place between the summer of 2027 and the end of 2031.
The ten A350-900s of the company, part of the Lufthansa Group, will be equipped with the new «SWISS Senses» interiors. These new aircraft will have a capacity for 242 passengers, offering more seats in Premium Economy and making SWISS one of the Airbus A350 operators with the least dense configuration in the market.
The CEO of <a href="https://www.swiss.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">SWISS</a>, Jens Fehlinger, stated that «our new Airbus A350s will make our fleet even more modern. This is a significant and vital investment to ensure that we continue meeting the high expectations of our customers. With these advanced twin-engine jets and their innovative cabins, we are taking our long-haul fleet to an entirely new level of modernity, sustainability, and onboard comfort for our passengers.»
The A350-900 is an advanced long-haul aircraft, efficient in fuel consumption and reducing carbon emissions. Additionally, its engines cut noise pollution by 50%. These new jets will replace the existing Airbus A340-300 aircraft in the company’s fleet, marking the end of the airline’s quad-engine era.
With the new «SWISS Senses» cabin, the A350 will offer extraordinary comfort and the most modern cabin features across all travel classes. The first Airbus A350-900 for SWISS will be delivered in the summer of 2025, and the remaining nine aircraft will be delivered gradually until the end of 2031. In the coming months, the airline is expected to determine which routes the new A350s will operate.

SWISS Introduces «SWISS Senses» Cabins in New Airbus A350 Fleet by 2027

SWISS is expanding its intercontinental network with a new non-stop service between Zurich and Seoul-Incheon, the first time the airline will fly to South Korea. SWISS is the second airline of the Lufthansa Group to operate in the Korean capital, complementing operations in Frankfurt and Munich.
According to data obtained through Air Portal in 2023 between Zurich and Seoul, 48,913 passengers and 5,267 tons of cargo were handled in 280 operations, SWISS will compete in this segment with Korean Air. South Korea is Switzerland&#8217;s fourth largest Asian partner.
This service will be complemented by the new Washington-Dulles and Toronto-Pearson destinations starting in the 2024 summer season. The South and East Asian routes operated by SWISS are Tokyo-Narita, Shanghai-Pudong, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Singapore, Delhi, and Mumbai.

SWISS set to land in South Korea for the first time

Edelweiss is adding an Airbus A320 to its fleet for 2024. From spring, this aircraft will be used to reinforce the short- and medium-haul offer and optimize capacity at peak periods during the summer season. With this additional airframe, the Swiss airline will operate 14 Airbus A320s and 5 Airbus A340s, for a total of 19 aircraft.
<h4>Improved business-class service</h4>
Business Class passengers will be able to enjoy exclusive chocolates from Confiserie Beschle of Basel. Beschle in reusable packaging, rosé champagne from the Gruet vineyard, and new Swiss soft drinks such as Pepita, Sinalco, Elmer Citro, and Rivella will be offered. These will also be served in rotation in 2024.

Edelweiss adds additional Airbus A320 and enhances its cabin services

SWISS has unveiled its schedule for the 2024 summer season, with increases in flights to major European cities, new routes and the extension of service to multiple destinations.
The Zurich &#8211; Bremen route will be available throughout the northern summer with daily flights operated by Airbus A220-100 and Embraer 190. SWISS&#8217; network in Germany currently serves Berlin, Dresden, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hannover, Hamburg, Munich and Stuttgart.
The Swiss airline will increase its flights to Alicante, Madrid, Naples, Venice and Vilnius for the 2024 summer season from its main hub in Zurich, in response to high passenger demand on these routes.
<h3>Expansion in Geneva</h3>
As part of its expansion at Geneva Airport, it is adding a route to Norway and extending year-round service to Denmark and Sweden. Also, there will be more flights to Malaga, Brussels and Athens.

SWISS expands its European offering for the 2024 summer season

SWISS International Air Lines has reinstated the last of its aircraft previously stored due to the coronavirus crisis. This marks the complete return to operation of its fleet. The aircraft, an Airbus A320, arrived on December 17 from Amman, Jordan, and conducted its first passenger service on Tuesday after three years in the desert.
During the coronavirus pandemic, the company stored 25 of its airplanes in Amman as a logistical response to the drastic drop in travel demand. With the recent return of the Airbus A320, the last of these stored aircraft, SWISS&#8217;s fleet is now fully operational.
Following thorough inspections by a specially trained crew, the plane left Amman after 1,180 days and returned to Zurich. It resumed passenger service on December 19, departing Zurich on flight LX974 to Berlin.
<h2>Technical Maintenance and Storage in Jordan</h2>
The carrier faced a significant decline in demand during the coronavirus pandemic, leading to a massive reduction in flight operations since Spring 2020. As part of this response, 25 aircraft were stored in the Jordanian desert. 
Under the guidance of SWISS&#8217;s own technical specialists and in collaboration with a local maintenance, repair, and overhaul provider, all stored aircraft underwent regular inspections and maintenance.
This included regular washing of hydraulic systems and engine functionality checks. Jordan&#8217;s warm and dry climate is particularly suitable for long-term aircraft storage, offering optimal protection against oxidation of metal components due to low humidity.
<h2>Return to Full Operational Capacity</h2>
“We are delighted to welcome the last of our aircraft stored in Jordan back into flight operations and restore our operational fleet to its full size,” says Claus Bauer, Head of Technical Fleet Management at SWISS. 
“Our specialists have made significant efforts over the past months to ensure each of our stored aircraft returned to Zurich in perfect technical condition. It has been a monumental task for everyone involved where every detail counts”, he added.
This Airbus A320-200, built in 1997, is one of the oldest aircraft in the SWISS fleet, operated by the company since its inception. The twin-engine can accommodate 180 passengers and has completed about 63,596 flight hours and 45,042 take-off/landing cycles in over 26 years of service.

SWISS Airline’s Fleet Fully Operational as Last Stored Aircraft Returns

Edelweiss is modernizing its long-haul aircraft fleet with the acquisition of six Airbus A350-900s, this new equipment will gradually replace all existing Airbus A340-300s in the fleet, ending an era of four-engined jet aircraft.
The leisure airline brought in A340s in 2016 with the strategic plan to expand its intercontinental operations. As part of a Lufthansa Group restructuring due to the COVID-19 health crisis, the company&#8217;s two Airbus A330s were transferred to Discover Airlines (formerly Eurowings Discover) in 2021.
The first A350 is scheduled to join the fleet from the 2025 summer season. By the end of 2026, the remaining five Airbus A340-300s will be replaced and Edelweiss&#8217; long-haul fleet will return to its pre-pandemic six units. In 2019, the airline had four A340s and two A330s active.
«The modernization of the long-haul fleet is a milestone in Edelweiss&#8217; nearly 30-year history. Edelweiss will thus operate one of the youngest long-haul fleets in Europe from 2026 onwards,» said Bernd Bauer, CEO of Edelweiss
The Airbus A350-900 has a longer range compared to the Airbus A340-300 allowing the airline to fly non-stop to new vacation destinations directly with Switzerland. The new aircraft offers the «Airspace» cabin with wide aisles and large-capacity luggage racks.
As previously announced, the Lufthansa Group will add four Airbus A350-900s previously owned by LATAM Airlines to the Edelweiss fleet and will offer all classes of the leisure airline: 246 in Economy Class, 63 Economy Max and 30 Business Class. With the A350s, the company will also provide 7.6% more seats compared to the A340.

LATAM Airlines&#8217; original configuration of the first four aircraft will be used for initial operations, with minor modifications to the cabin and Edelweiss design. This is due to the global shortage of materials, as well as reduced engineering and maintenance capabilities. Next, the leisure airline will be installing a cabin configuration with new seats and interior design and will be investing a sum of three million euros.
«The Airbus A350-900 design sets new standards of efficiency with cutting-edge technologies and outstanding aerodynamics. It is one of the most environmentally friendly long-haul aircraft in the world,» added Bauer.
According to the current schedule, the first Airbus A350-900 with the Edelweiss design will arrive in Zurich in the summer of 2025 and will be used across the leisure airline&#8217;s entire intercontinental network. This includes more than 20 holiday destinations in North America, Central America, South America, Africa, Asia, the Middle East and the Indian Ocean.

Edelweiss Progresses with Replacement of A340-300 Fleet with Six A350-900s

easyJet will start flights between London Stansted and Zurich from December 13th. The company will operate two services per week with 186-seat Airbus A320 aircraft during the high season.

easyJet to launch flights between London Stansted and Zurich

SWISS International Air Lines will offer its customers free internet chat service such as WhatsApp on all long-haul flights as of August 2, 2023. The new service will be available in First, Business, Premium Economy and Economy, throughout the entire flight with no data limit.
Customers also have the option to use other internet features such as browsing, email or social networking through two additional packages. The new service will provide passengers in all classes to send and receive text messages and images via their smartphone, laptop or tablet throughout the flight. The facility will have access to all popular messaging services such as WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and Telegram.
SWISS customers can opt for the «Wi &#8211; Fi 4 Hours» data package which offers four hours of access for CHF 25 , or the CHF 35 «Wi &#8211; Fi Premium» which provides access for the entire flight. First Class customers and HON Circle members enjoy unlimited Internet access for the entire flight.

SWISS will offer free internet chat on all long-haul flights

Edelweiss will boost its offering of popular and in-demand holiday destinations for the winter season. The Lufthansa Group&#8217;s leisure airline will provide customers with multiple travel options to beach destinations, cultural excursions and snow.
In Egypt, the carrier will fly daily to Hurghada, and even twice daily on weekends. Luxor and Marsa Alam will have two and three weekly flights respectively. The number of flights to Sharm El Sheikh will double four times a week. In total, the airline will have a schedule of 23 weekly flights between Switzerland and Egypt.
<h3>Holiday destinations for golfers, hikers and leisure travelers</h3>
Spain is one of the most popular destinations during the cold months, with many tourists looking to practice sports or enjoy the local culture. Edelweiss will boost its services to the Canary Islands next winter and will fly daily to Tenerife and Gran Canaria, and even twice daily on weekends.
Fuerteventura will have four flights a week, Lanzarote three flights a week and La Palma two flights a week. The offer to Mallorca will increase with two additional services, up to five times a week. Seville will have a schedule of four flights a week during the winter. In Portugal, the airline will fly to Faro three times a week.
Holiday destinations in Morocco will be boosted with additional capacity for the 2023/2024 winter schedule, with a new service without to Agadir starting in February. Edelweiss will fly six times weekly to Marrakech and twice weekly to Agadir throughout the winter. In Cyprus, the leisure airline will operate daily to Larnaca.
<h3>More snow destinations on offer</h3>
The company will strengthen its operations in snow destinations during the winter, providing customers with a wide range of travel options and the option of various winter activities and natural spectacles. Due to strong demand, the airline is expanding its services in Norway by flying to Tromsø and Bergen up to three and two times a week respectively.
In Iceland, the route to Reykjavík/Keflavik will have three flights a week and Edinburgh (UK) will have four flights a week.
<h3>A winter of recovery against COVID</h3>
The long-haul schedule for the 2023/2024 winter season includes new holiday destinations in Colombia (Bogota and Cartagena) and increased offerings in the United States, Thailand and South Africa. The full schedule for next winter includes 57 vacation destinations in 32 countries (short, medium and long-haul).

Denver Airport Celebrates Fifth Anniversary of Edelweiss Flights to Zurich

Edelweiss will expand its long-haul operations for the 2023/2024 winter schedule, offering 20 destinations in 15 countries, reinforcing its flight to the United States, South Africa and Thailand.
<h3>United States</h3>
The leisure airline will extend its service to Las Vegas (LAS) through November to meet strong demand for the F1 event, which will be held November 16-18.
Edelweiss will operate year-round to Tampa, Florida (TPA) and will have twice-weekly flights in the winter season.
<h3>Caribbean and South America</h3>
The company will have the same schedule in the Caribbean as last winter season. Cancun (CUN) will have three weekly flights, Havana (HAV) one weekly flight and Punta Cana (PUJ) twice a week.
The service to Puerto Plata (POP) will operate one weekly flight in combination with Montego Bay (MBJ). In Costa Rica, the company will have three weekly flights to San Jose (SJO), including two flights per week with a stopover in Liberia/Guanacaste (LIR).
Starting November 22, 2023, Edelweiss will resume operations to South America with a new Colombia service with a combined flight between Bogota (BOG) and Cartagena (CTG).

The airline will increase its flights to Cape Town (CPT) to four times a week and extend service until the end of August. The Tanzania service will have two weekly flights with a combined route between Zanzibar (ZNZ) and Kilimanjaro (JRO).
By early October, Edelweiss will restart operations to Phuket (HKT) with three weekly flights.
<h3>Middle East and Indian Ocean</h3>
Services to Muscat (MCT), Mauritius (MRU) and Seychelles (SEZ) will continue to be available for the winter schedule. Operations to Maldives (MLE) will have three weekly flights and will offer a weekly connecting flight to Colombo (CMB).

Edelweiss long-haul network will reach 20 destinations in 15 countries

SWISS is expanding its intercontinental flight offering for the 2023/2024 northern winter season by strengthening its operations in the United States, Mainland China, North Africa and Southeast Asia. The company is restoring pre-pandemic capacity on multiple long-haul services.
The carrier is doubling its South Florida offering by providing two daily flights to Miami (MIA), the same schedule the airline had during the 2019 winter season. In Mainland China, service to Shanghai Pudong (PVG) increases from three to six weekly flights.
SWISS&#8217; Singapore &#8211; Changi (SIN) operation will have an additional weekly frequency increasing service to daily flights fully restoring its pre-pandemic offering. The North Africa offering is expanded with the increase of the route to Cairo (CAI) which will have daily operations.

SWISS Boosts its Intercontinental Flight Offer

On April 10, Delta Air Lines began nonstop flights between New York (JFK) and Geneva (GVA) as part of its transatlantic expansion for the 2023 summer season. With the start of this route, four airlines now provide transatlantic flights at Switzerland&#8217;s second largest airport.

Flight DL 100 was operated on a Boeing 767 registered as N1201P, which took off from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) at 21:05 local time and landed at Geneva International Airport (GVA) at 09:54 the following day, after six hours and 49 minutes.

The carrier will have 6,048 weekly seats on offer between Switzerland and the United States, a 100% increase when compared to 2022 levels. In addition to the route to Geneva (GVA), Delta also has daily year-round flights between New York (JFK) and Zurich (ZRH) operated on Boeing 767s.

The route is operated on Boeing 767-300ER aircraft with 216 seats in four classes (26 Delta One/18 Premium Select/21 Comfort+/151 Main Cabin) and promotional fares are available from USD 880 roundtrip. Customers can connect to multiple North American destinations offered by the airline through its main transatlantic hub at John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK).
According to data obtained by aviacionline through Geneva Airport statistics, 229,227 were mobilized between GVA and the New York metropolitan area in 2019, the Big Apple is GVA&#8217;s main transatlantic market. Delta competes in this segment with Star Alliance carriers SWISS and United Airlines.
This new nonstop service is expected to have a significant impact on the region by strengthening the tourism industry, increasing flexibility and travel options for the diplomatic sector, and increasing the cargo market.

Delta starts flights between New York and Geneva

All seats will offer optimal lighting, state-of-the-art entertainment systems with larger screens and connectivity options for mobile devices for all classes.

<h4>SWISS First</h4>
The new suites: SWISS First offer customers enhanced privacy with sliding doors, a spacious personal closet, a large seating table, heated and cooled seats, wireless charging ports and a large screen, almost as big as the suite.
The center suite can be adapted for two people to travel together, and a new bathroom has also been developed exclusively for First Class. The concept was inspired by the Vals spring in Canton Graubünden.
