Colombia inaugurates two new international routes to the U.S.: Bogotá–Tampa and Medellín–Fort Lauderdale
On Sunday, March 30, two new international routes connecting Colombia with the United States began operations: Bogotá–Tampa and Medellín–Fort Lauderdale.
The Bogotá–Tampa route will offer four weekly flights, providing a total capacity of 1,440 seats per week. Meanwhile, the Medellín–Fort Lauderdale connection will operate daily, representing a weekly offer of 2,520 seats. Both routes will be operated with Airbus A320 family aircraft, each accommodating 180 passengers.
According to David Alemán, Avianca’s Sales Director for Colombia and South America, the launch of these routes is part of the airline’s goal to strengthen air connectivity across the continent. “We aim to leverage Colombia’s strategic location to facilitate travel between North and South America,” he said.
From OPAIN, the operator of El Dorado International Airport, officials emphasized the importance of expanding the network of international destinations. Natalí Leal, General Manager, highlighted that adding new routes strengthens Bogotá’s position as a regional hub and supports economic recovery.

Similarly, Javier Andrés Benítez Ríos, General Manager of José María Córdova International Airport, welcomed the new connection from Medellín, stating that it enhances international route options and improves travel choices for passengers.
