Colombian Civil Aviation Authority Requests Special Flights and Reduced Fares for Citizens Returning from the U.S.
With detailed monitoring of fares and flights, the Colombian Civil Aviation Authority aims to ensure affordable conditions for Colombians who have been in the U.S. for over three months and wish to return.
The Colombian Civil Aviation Authority (Aerocivil) has requested airlines operating routes from the United States to implement special flights and preferential fares to facilitate the return of Colombian citizens to the country.
Through its Air Transport and Commercial Aviation Directorate, the agency will, starting today and for a period of six months, expand the approval process for flight requests that serve this purpose. The measure aims to streamline authorizations within the existing regulatory framework and in accordance with established return operation policies.
Additionally, Aerocivil has urged airlines to apply self-regulated fare policies, promoting special one-way fares for Colombians who have stayed in the U.S. for more than three months and need to return to Colombia. This provision will apply to both special commercial flights and regular routes that meet the required conditions.
Airlines have also been encouraged to increase operational capacity, either by adding extra flights or operating charter services, to accommodate the demand from citizens needing to return home.
To ensure compliance with these measures, Aerocivil's Analytics Office will closely monitor the fares applied to these special flights. Updated information will be shared through official channels.
