This week, Discover Airlines begins its long-haul operations from Munich Airport, with its first service to Orlando, Florida, scheduled for March 5. Starting April 1, the airline will add Windhoek, Namibia, with both routes operating four times per week. Then, on April 12, Discover Airlines will launch flights to Calgary, Canada. For the winter season, it will introduce flights to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, starting October 26, with three weekly frequencies. The leisure airline will have no direct competition on these routes.
This summer, Discover Airlines, the leisure airline of the Lufthansa Group, will base two Airbus A330s and six A320s in Munich. In addition to its long-haul services, its network will include 32 holiday destinations and an average of 80 weekly flights. The schedule features routes to the Canary Islands, multiple Mediterranean destinations, as well as Varna and Burgas in Bulgaria, Bodø in Norway, and Reykjavík in Iceland.
"We look back on a successful first year in Munich, both operationally and commercially. Our second base is already making a significant contribution to Discover Airlines' overall success, and booking numbers show that this positive trend continues. That’s why I’m even more pleased that we can now expand our offer for travelers from Munich with fantastic long-haul destinations and some completely new ones within Europe—just in time for summer," said Bernd Bauer, CEO of Discover Airlines.
Alongside Frankfurt, Munich Airport serves as Discover Airlines' second base of operations. All flights depart from Terminal 1, facilitating seamless connections with Lufthansa and supporting its long-haul services. The airline has hired 400 employees in cockpit, cabin, and ground operations in Munich.
