El Dorado International Airport Sets New Cargo Transport Record in 2024
E-commerce drove a 109% growth in imports to Colombia, with over 11 million packages moved in 2024.
El Dorado International Airport has set a new record for cargo transport, handling 809,029 tons in 2024. This marks a 5.12% increase compared to 2023 (769,607 tons) and a 3.74% rise over 2022 (779,897 tons). With these results, El Dorado remains the busiest cargo hub in Latin America and the Caribbean, ranking 34th globally.
E-commerce Boosts Import Growth
The growth of e-commerce has been a key driver of increased imports to Colombia, with a 109% rise in package volume. According to PASAREX, more than five million packages were transported in 2023, while the number exceeded 11 million in 2024.

Fabio Silva, Operations Manager at OPAIN, emphasized the significance of this cargo growth:
“These results reinforce our commitment to optimizing operational, technical, and logistical processes to meet the growing demand for air freight, which increased by 11.3% in 2024, according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
He also highlighted that:
“Transporting over 800,000 tons of cargo from El Dorado to 90 domestic and international destinations is a testament to the efficiency and management of the airport.”
